Eligibility and Membership
The Children’s Advocacy Centers of Georgia (CACGA) listserv is open to professionals employed by a Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) that is a Full, Associate, Developing, or Affiliate member of the CACGA network. Certain multidisciplinary team professionals outside the CACGA membership network may access the listserv with approval from their affiliated CAC. CACGA will request approval from the CAC’s Executive Director before granting access.
Agreement to Guidelines
By obtaining CACGA membership and subscribing to or receiving any CACGA communication, including listserv posts received by email or accessed through the archives, you acknowledge and agree to these community guidelines. Direct questions about the rules or the listserv to the Moderation Team (info@cacga.org), not to the listserv.
Netiquette Rules
Civility and Posting Etiquette
Negative comments about members of our network are not permitted. Treat every subscriber with respect. Do not ridicule or belittle subscribers in the CACGA community or in private emails.
Keep posts on topic. Appropriate topics include children’s advocacy centers and their work; related advocacy and legal issues; and history and current events relevant to CACs.
Keep posts brief and to the point and use a descriptive subject line. Send messages intended for one person, such as “thank you,” “I agree,” or lengthy personal anecdotes, privately rather than to the entire community.
CACGA has a large membership, so each post reaches many busy people. Before posting, consider whether your message adds useful information to the discussion or would be better sent privately. Check whether others have already shared the information you intend to provide.
Members may be temporarily placed on moderation if they send excessive numbers of posts or repeatedly share the same or similar information to the point that it is no longer helpful.
If you post a question and receive several answers, consolidate your responses into one reply rather than replying separately to each answer.
Include your name and email address in every post to the CACGA listserv. Anonymous posts are not permitted.
Privacy Policies
Do not forward members-only information, files, documents, posts, or personal content from posts without the original poster’s prior written permission. If the material includes posts from more than one person, obtain prior permission from every poster. Do not share other CACGA community members’ email addresses without their prior consent.
Forwarding listserv posts or sharing personal content from them without prior permission from the original poster or posters is grounds for removal from the listserv.
Avoid personal names and other identifying details when requesting information or help about a particular case or situation.
CACGA is not responsible for personal information included in posts or uploaded files.
CACGA cannot guarantee the confidentiality of any post or prevent information from being shared. Members are responsible for exercising care when sharing information and understanding the practical limits of confidentiality.
Do not post anything you would not want the world to see or anything you would not want others to know came from you.
Each poster is responsible for complying with defamation laws and all other applicable laws. CACGA is not responsible for listserv content or the distribution of posts.
Additional Rights and Responsibilities
Subscription Requirements and Account Updates
All CACGA listserv subscription requests must acknowledge and accept the subscriber guidelines.
Subscribers agree to abide by all of these guidelines.
If ten or more listserv messages are returned as undeliverable from a subscriber’s email address, that address will be deleted from the CACGA listserv database. A new Request for Subscription must be submitted before the address can be reinstated.
If your email address changes, notify the Listserv Administrator at info@cacga.org within 5 business days. Complete a new subscription request form before posting messages from the new email address.
Permitted Use and Message Format
Use information posted to or accessed through the listserv only for informational or educational purposes. Jokes, cartoons, and executable files are prohibited.
Whenever possible, include messages in the body of the email rather than as attachments. Large messages containing graphics or attachments will be rejected automatically by the listserv software or routed to subscribers’ junk folders.
Commercial and other unauthorized use of the listserv is prohibited.
Do not conduct business or solicit actions that violate federal, state, or local law.
Do not post messages that encourage or facilitate agreements to fix prices, boycott others’ businesses, or engage in other conduct intended to illegally restrict free trade.
Send all research requests to the CACGA CEO for approval. Research requests will not be published on the listserv.
Guideline Changes and Questions
CACGA reserves the right to modify these guidelines at any time without prior notice.
Direct all questions about the CACGA listserv to the Listserv Administrator at info@cacga.org.
Copyright
By subscribing to the CACGA listserv, you agree not to upload files or information, or send posts, that infringe others’ copyrights. Do not post full articles unless you have permission. If you wish to share an article, post 1–2 paragraphs and a link so other members can read it.
Do not post messages or other text from outside the listserv without the author’s express permission unless the material is clearly intended for public dissemination, such as a press release or public event announcement, or falls within the fair-use limitations established by international copyright conventions. In most cases, this prohibits posting complete articles from newspapers, magazines, or websites. Generally, provide a link instead of the full text.
If no link is available, you may offer to send the material privately to individuals, provided you comply with copyright and fair-use requirements. You are responsible for determining whether you meet these requirements. CACGA is not responsible for the forwarding of such materials.
Advertising
Advertising is expressly forbidden. Do not use the listserv or its membership for commercial purposes. This includes using names, email addresses, or other information from CACGA lists or the membership directory to advertise or sell products or services, or to help others do so. Sending unsolicited advertisements or commercial information about any product, service, or other item offered for a fee to subscribers, whether through the listserv or privately, violates these rules. Send complaints about violations to the Moderation Team.
Political Action or Policy Alerts
CACGA members may not send political or policy action alerts, or other communications intended to encourage members to take political action.
Responsibilities
The opinions and information expressed in the CACGA community are solely those of the author or member.
When commenting on another member’s post, frame your response as a recommendation rather than prescriptive advice. Members may not know the individual child or situation, may not be familiar with applicable state laws or regulations, or may not be licensed to provide specific advice. Use wording such as “You may wish to consider…” or “Check out O.C.G.A. § 49-5-41.”
Do not use CACGA resources or forums to second-guess advice from professionals or counsel retained by a CAC.
Posts on the CACGA listserv are not legal advice or legal opinions, even when the poster is an attorney. They are not a substitute for consulting your own professional counsel or attorney about your situation or case. CACGA is not responsible for the opinions or information shared, or for their accuracy. Use of CACGA resources or forums does not create an attorney-client relationship.
Individual posters are solely responsible for their posts. CACGA makes no guarantees about its listserv, posts, or members’ actions and does not endorse or offer opinions about listserv posts.
CACGA is not responsible for private emails or other off-list communications.
Send questions or concerns about the CACGA community to the Moderation Team at info@cacga.org. Emails sent to this address go to the CACGA Moderation Team.
List Moderation and Enforcement
The CACGA listserv is private and moderated. Participation is a privilege, not a right. These rules are intended to make the listserv useful to all subscribers. Every subscriber is expected to know and follow them.
Complaints
Do not send complaints about other members to the listserv. Send complaints about compliance with listserv rules to info@cacga.org.
Include the following with your complaint:
· A copy of the message in question.
· A specific explanation of the reason for the complaint.
After receiving a complaint, the Moderation Team may use its discretion to determine whether a violation occurred, whether further action is required, and how to implement that action. The team will consult with the CACGA Board as needed.
